Bob McIntyre
March 10, 2016

Robert (Bob) Ellsworth McIntyre passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10th, 2016 at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre with his much beloved wife Darlene (Shillington) holding his hand. Bob had a wonderful 50-year career in broadcasting following his early life in the RCAF. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the RTNDA and the Edward R. Murrow Award for excellence in broadcasting, as well as many others. For over 30 years, Bob was the Barrie and area weatherman, loved, respected and invited into people’s homes on a daily basis. He is missed. Bob and Darlene inspired many people by sharing not only their love for each other but also their journey with Bob’s cancer. During that time, Bob followed his dream to become a pilot and for the past 15 years spent as much time flying classic aircraft as he could at Edenvale Airport. Bob was also Honorary Colonel, Air Command Academy, 16 Wing at CFBB, a role he was thrilled to take on with the Military. Arrangements will be private. Donations can be made in Bob’s memory to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre Foundation or to the Edenvale Classic Aircraft Foundation through the Jennett Funeral & Cremation Centre, 152 Bradford Street in Barrie (705) 722-6656.

Bob was News Director at CKFH in Toronto in the early ’70s, after getting his radio start at CFJR Brockville in 1966, followed by a stint at CHAM Hamilton. Bob started at CKVR-TV in 1972 then left for a brief stint as the News Director at CKCO-TV in Kitchener, and returned to his familiar weather role at CKVR-TV in 1983.
