At 6:30 CKCO-TV (Channel 13, Cable 12) airs the documentary Children Having Children, a poignantly close-up look at teenage parents making grown-up decisions for themselves and their babies.

Written, produced and hosted by Colleen Walsh, the half-hour program focuses on three teen moms, all bright, articulate subjects, each of whom has made a different decision about the future care of her child. For 19-year-old Tanya, it means living on mother’s allowance with her toddler son at the YWCA. For 16-year-old Kirk and 15-year-old Tammy, it means sacrificing their childhood and education to raise their son together. And for 16-year-old Leanne, it means giving up her son for adoption. A fourth segment looks at a couple who have waited in vain for three years to adopt a child.

Walsh has effectively captured the pain, uncertainty and small rewards experienced by these youngsters as they struggle to grow up fast.
